Matteo Berrettini has revealed that his walk-on outfit designed by sponsors BOSS for Wimbledon has been banned by the tournament. Naomi Osaka turned heads this week with her striking fashion choices as she made her way onto the court.

American Taylor Fritz also impressed as he sported a Roger Federer 2007-inspired suit, likewise crafted by BOSS. However, the brand has run into difficulties with Berrettini’s ensemble.

“There was an option actually but I got refused by Wimbledon,” Berrettini explained about his lack of walk-on outfit. “It was not white enough.

“It was a little bit off-white. Then on the color, it was a little bit brownish. I seen it once. Yeah, so there was an option, but they didn’t let me do it. It’s okay.

“You could see it actually on my social media. I posted about it. I did a shooting with that. Yeah, unfortunately I couldn’t go on court with that.”

Having made a rare fashion statement ahead of his match, Fritz said: “BOSS came to me with the idea of wanting to do it, and so we did it. You know, I wasn’t 100 per cent sure how I felt, but after seeing the pictures after the match, I feel like it looked all right.

“Yeah, I don’t know. I think people are going to be torn. I think some people are going to like it and some people are going to think that anyone who is dressed up to walk out is doing too much.”

When discussing her choices, Osaka shared: “For me, like when someone talks about Wimbledon or when I think about Wimbledon, it’s like obviously the all white. It’s the oldest tournament, right, the oldest slam or something?

“Yeah, then there’s obviously, like, the tradition of it all. In my head, when I think about that, I think about my cultures, my heritage, which is Japanese and Haitian.

“Then if I dive deeper into like Japanese culture, I think about the most iconic silhouette, which for me is a kimono. You don’t have to see the color of a kimono to know that it is a kimono.

“I don’t know, I was just thinking about my favorite movies also. I love Kill Bill. I remembered absolutely falling in love with Lucy Lu’s character.

“She has an all-white kimono, and I remember thinking that was really cool and amazing. Then it just kind of went from there. It was like my interpretation of that while also paying a lot of respect and love to Japan.”
