Trump says he will ‘try’ to make his son, Donald Trump Jr.’s, wedding but ‘it’s not good timing for me’
US President Donald Trump will not attend the wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., because he has to stay in Washington for government business, he has revealed.
Don Jr. is set to marry Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson on a small island in the Bahamas, CNN reported. The president told reporters that it was going to be a “small private affair” and that he was trying to make it but the timing was bad for him. “I have a thing called Iran and other things,” Trump stated.
He later wrote in a Truth Social post: “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump family, his soon-to-be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so.”
The post continued, “I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time.”
Don Jr. began dating Anderson sometime in 2024 and the couple got engaged in December 2025. The president announced that his eldest son, 47, was engaged to Anderson, 39, at a White House holiday party.
