Popular Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has shared his views on the employability of many Nigerian graduates, arguing that a significant number lack adequate knowledge and skills in their chosen fields of study.

Speaking while recalling an encounter with a graduate on a movie set, Inojie expressed disappointment over what he described as a poor understanding of a course the individual studied at the university.

According to him, the graduate, who studied Linguistics, struggled to engage in a discussion about the discipline despite it being only an elective course for him.

“I was having a discussion with someone on set; she now said she studied Linguistics. She was so surprised and couldn’t believe it when I said, ‘Oh, all these Noam Chomsky children.’ She was lost when we started discussing her course of study (Linguistics), meanwhile, it was an elective course for me. She was lost,” he said.

The actor noted that the experience reinforced concerns about the quality of knowledge possessed by some graduates.

“I was really disappointed in her and that thing dey worry me. I’ve heard people say that a good number of our graduates today are not employable. That statement no too far from the truth o. That is why many of them are not willing to work,” Inojie added.

He maintained that many young people are reluctant to take up jobs because they lack sufficient understanding of the fields they studied, despite holding academic qualifications.
