A whisky boss has been convicted of punching his partner during an “abhorrent” attack at a booze festival.

Marcos McCurley, an ambassador for a Glasgow-based spirits firm, was found guilty of injuring his girlfriend in the street during the city’s Whisky Festival in November last year.

The 32-year-old, of Dundee, pushed his victim to the ground and punched her on the arm before abusing her in a car on the – smashing her mobile phone against the windscreen.

Outraged sources in the industry described McCurley as the “self-proclaimed face of scotch whisky” and the front man for Brave New Spirits.

They described his conduct as “truly abhorrent”. The attack, in November, happened at Charing Cross, outside the well-known Bon Accord whisky bar, where McCurley’s firm had been involved in an event linked to the festival.

The sell-out festival, at Hampden Park, is held to showcase Scotland’s best whisky brands each year.

McCurley was convicted of two charges under domestic abuse legislation after appearing for trial at Falkirk Sheriff Court last week. Sheriff Maryam Labaki deferred sentence until August.

A spokesman for McCurley’s firm said: “We are aware of the court’s decision. Brave New Spirits takes matters of this nature extremely seriously.

“We are currently taking legal advice and reviewing options available to us following the judgement.”
