The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed calls for his removal from office following the death of Mary Habila a female staff at his private residence.

The minister made this remark in a trending video making rounds online on Monday.

According to him, the president insisted that he should continue to build roads across the country.

Reacting to the calls, Umahi said, “What surprised me was when people took the death of one of my best workers and started to play politics. They said the President should sack me. Why should he do so, for doing what?

“So anybody that is working with you that dies, then you must be sacked? But the President surprised all of them. Instead, he said, ‘Dave, go and build more roads.’”

Recall that Habila’s death in June sparked widespread reactions on social media, with some Nigerians, politicians and media commentators calling for Umahi’s removal from office over the circumstances surrounding her death and the subsequent investigations.

Although investigations have commenced, the final outcome of the incidents surrounding Habila’s death is yet to be revealed.
