The Met Office predicts temperatures will rise to the mid-20s next week, ahead of the late May bank holiday weekend.
The first half of the week is expected to be changeable and unsettled, with sunshine and showers, some heavy with thunder, and initially subdued temperatures.
Temperatures will begin to climb from Wednesday, with the south of England potentially reaching 20C.
By Thursday and Friday, conditions are forecast to become increasingly drier and brighter, particularly for England and Wales, with maximum temperatures possibly reaching 26C on Friday in the south east.
The bank holiday weekend is anticipated to be warmer than recent weeks, with the best sunshine expected across England and Wales.
