Walmart finally starts offering contactless payment after years of customer complaints

Walmart redesigns its Great Value brand for first time in 10 years to reflect changing shopping habits
  • Walmart and Sam’s Club announced the rollout of tap-to-pay technology starting August 24, supporting options such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • The tap-to-pay feature will expand to all U.S. stores and clubs by the end of 2026, with plans to reach fuel stations by mid-2027.
  • Walmart was one of the last major U.S. retailers without tap to pay, previously requiring shoppers to use physical cards or QR code scans via Walmart Pay.
  • The retailer also recently launched a drone delivery operation with Wing in Central Florida, delivering items in under 30 minutes to over 50,000 locations.
  • Walmart plans to open approximately 20 new stores and remodel 650 existing locations between 2026 and 2027 to enhance the customer experience.
