Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, has left the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo after hours of questioning over alleged inciting comments made at a campaign rally.
Recall that Fadahunsi honoured a police invitation on Wednesday, reporting to the State Criminal Investigation Department for questioning over a campaign video from an All Progressives Congress rally in Ilesa, in which his remark was interpreted as urging his supporters to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party.
The Osun State Police Command had on Tuesday directed the senator to appear before the SCID, describing the alleged remarks as threatening, inciting and capable of heightening tension ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
After hours at the police headquarters, Fadahunsi was seen leaving the facility with an entourage in a video shared by News Central.
However, details of the interrogation remained unclear as neither the police nor the senator had issued any official statement as of the time of filing this report.
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, with the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party seeking re-election against candidates from the APC, the Accord Party, and other parties.
The build-up to the election has been marked by heightened political tension, with security agencies on alert across the state.
Fadahunsi represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
He is a prominent figure in the political opposition in Osun State and has been an active participant in the APC’s governorship campaign ahead of Saturday’s poll.
