VIDEO: Bishops told Tinubu the truth, says Kalu

Orji Uzor Kalu

The Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said the economic hardship and insecurity confronting Nigerians are not the fault of President Bola Tinubu, adding that politicians often mislead the President about the country’s situation.

Kalu stated this in a viral video while reacting to the recent visit of members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria to Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The bishops had expressed concerns over the country’s economy, insecurity and political climate during the meeting.

Following the visit, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, disclosed that Tinubu disagreed with the bishops’ assessment, insisting that his administration was on the right track.

Speaking on the development, Kalu described the Catholic bishops as the conscience of the nation, saying their advice was always offered in the national interest.

“The Catholic bishops are the conscience of the country and once they give advice, their advice is not for or against; it’s just for any sitting President to see things the way it should be,” he said.

He acknowledged that Nigerians were facing genuine challenges but argued that Tinubu should not be blamed for them.

“The Catholic bishops are aware of the situation in the country. There are real difficulties in Nigeria, but they are not President Tinubu’s fault,” Kalu said.

The former Abia State governor commended the meeting between the bishops and the President, saying it provided Tinubu with an honest assessment of the country’s realities.

“The Catholic bishops’ visit to President Tinubu is a good one. I support it because they are telling him the way it is,” he said.

Kalu also accused politicians of giving the President an inaccurate picture of conditions across the country.

“It promotes the President to work harder because the Catholic bishops are just telling him the way it is. Even if politicians are lying to him that things are good everywhere, they can never say that.

“Even if we politicians can lie to him, the bishops will tell him the truth about the current reality of the country,” he added.
