Trump says peace deal with Iran ‘largely negotiated’ including Strait of Hormuz reopening
The U.S. conducted “self-defense” airstrikes against Iran, targeting missile launch sites and mine-laying boats in the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Central Command spokesperson Tim Hawkins stated the strikes were carried out to protect American troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.
Targets included two Iranian boats reportedly caught laying mines and a surface-to-air missile site in Bandar Abbas that was targeting U.S. warplanes.
These strikes occurred amidst a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, though some U.S. officials indicated the ceasefire was not broken.
Donald Trump commented on social media earlier Monday about ongoing negotiations to end the Iran war, emphasizing a need for a “Great Deal” and the importance of the Abraham Accords.
