A U.S. military strike in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Tuesday targeted a suspected drug smuggling vessel, resulting in one fatality and two survivors.
This incident increases the death toll from U.S. military boat attacks to at least 208 since the administration initiated its campaign against alleged “narcoterrorists” in early September.
U.S. Southern Command stated the target was alleged drug traffickers but provided no evidence to substantiate claims that the vessel was transporting illicit drugs.
Donald Trump has justified these attacks as an “armed conflict” against cartels to stem drug flow, despite offering little evidence for his administration’s “narcoterrorist” claims.
Critics question the legality and effectiveness of these strikes, noting that fentanyl, a major concern, is typically trafficked over land from Mexico.
