Iran war: U.S. launches new wave of strikes on Iran
The U.S. military reported shooting down four Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, subsequently striking Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in retaliation.
U.S. Central Command indicated the drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic, amid a U.S. blockade on Iranian ports that has affected global energy prices.
These incidents are the latest in a series of back-and-forth attacks that are straining a tenuous ceasefire and efforts to extend the truce.
Earlier this week, Iranian drones heavily damaged a passenger terminal at Kuwait’s main airport, causing one fatality, dozens of injuries, and a temporary closure of the airfield.
President Donald Trump stated on Friday that “the situation with Iran seems to be going quite well,” despite the escalating attacks, and his administration also highlighted a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
