  • The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a major US auto industry lobby group, has written to Congress requesting a permanent ban on the sale, import, and manufacture of Chinese vehicles.
  • Alliance CEO John Bozzella warned that Chinese cars are “capable of collecting, processing and transmitting sensitive vehicle and consumer data to the Chinese Communist Party.”
  • U.S. lawmakers are considering legislation to restrict Chinese market access, including a Senate proposal targeting vehicle manufacturers with more than 15 per cent Chinese ownership.
  • The call for a ban comes amid heightened U.S.-China trade tensions, following heavy tariffs imposed on Chinese exports by President Donald Trump.
  • Relations remain strained following recent claims by the president regarding election interference and criticism from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over Chinese export policies.
