The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of targeting an oil tanker operated by the state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, while the vessel was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, the UAE Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as a “hostile Iranian attack” on the tanker, saying a missile struck the vessel but caused no casualties.
The allegation comes amid heightened tensions in the region and growing concerns over the security of commercial shipping through the strategically important waterway.
ADNOC said on Friday that 15 of its vessels had come under attack in the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict, including three vessels during the week alone.
The UAE government has condemned the reported attacks and reiterated concerns over the safety of maritime traffic through the vital shipping route, which carries a significant share of the world’s oil supplies.
