Two policemen attached to the Imo State Police Command have been confirmed dead following a road accident involving seven operatives along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.
The Imo State Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident that led to the fatalities.
According to Okoye, the accident occurred on Monday, June 29, while the seven police operatives were on the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.
He said the command had commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident, adding that the two deceased operatives died while receiving medical treatment, while the other five personnel are still in hospital.
He expressed the sympathy of the State Police Commissioner, Audu Bosso, to the families of the deceased operatives and prayed for the repose of their souls.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road traffic accident involving seven personnel of the Command who were on official duty on 29th June, 2026, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
“Regrettably, two of the officers later succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment, while the other injured personnel are currently undergoing treatment. The Commissioner of Police has directed that every necessary medical and welfare support be provided to the injured officers to aid their recovery,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police also prayed for the speedy and full recovery of the injured personnel and assured their families of the Command’s unwavering support during this difficult period, reaffirming that the welfare of officers and men remains a priority of the Command.
