Trump calls CIA chief’s mysterious visit to Moscow ‘semi-routine’
- President Donald Trump called CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s mysterious visit to Moscow on Tuesday “semi-routine” after it sparked a flurry of interest.
- Ratcliffe held talks with Russian intelligence officials during a visit to Moscow but did not meet with President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
- Trump said on Wednesday, “Now something may come … out of it. We’re working very hard to get that war ended,” referring to the war in Ukraine.
- Asked whether the CIA chief went to Moscow to discuss the NATO military alliance or Iran sanctions, Trump replied: “None of the above. He’s there, you know, very sort of semi-routine.”
- The trip marks a rare high-level meeting between officials from both nations, following a similar visit by previous CIA Director William Burns in November 2021 prior to the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
