Troops of the 8 Division, Operation FANSAN YANMA, have overrun suspected terrorist enclaves during a clearance operation in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The development was disclosed on Thursday in a post shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, via his X handle.

Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 4:00 a.m. on May 20 following credible intelligence on terrorist activities within the area.

The troops reportedly advanced on suspected hideouts around Shadadi village, where they came under attack from the terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

With the support of drone surveillance, the troops were able to overpower the terrorists and overrun their positions.

During the operation, the troops recovered one magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and three motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.

Several life-support structures used by the criminals within the enclave were also destroyed during the offensive.

Military sources said one soldier sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter and was immediately stabilised before being evacuated for further medical attention.

The operation is part of ongoing clearance offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks operating in parts of the North-West.

Security sources added that troops have continued aggressive patrols and clearance operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action across the region.
