Tourist plane crashes near Nazca Lines, killing all 13 on board
- Thirteen people, including 11 foreign tourists from Germany, Italy, and Spain, and two crew members, died in a small plane crash in southern Peru on Saturday.
- The Cessna Caravan C-208 aircraft, operated by Peruvian airline Aerodiana, crashed in the Socos area, about 6km from Nazca city, after departing from Pisco Airport.
- The crew reported an emergency to Nazca airport control tower at 1.00pm local time before losing radio contact, with the plane subsequently catching fire.
- The plane was conducting a scenic flight over the Nazca Lines, a significant archaeological tourist attraction in Peru, which draws around 100,000 visitors annually.
- The cause of the crash is currently unknown, and Peruvian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
