  • The Conservative Party’s former campaigning director Anthony Lee and his wife Laura Saunders have pleaded guilty to cheating at gambling regarding the 2024 general election date.
  • Saunders was a parliamentary candidate for Bristol North-West, while Lee managed campaign deployment when then-prime minister Rishi Sunak called the election.
  • The couple were charged following an investigation into allegations that inside information was used to place bets on the election date.
  • Their guilty pleas follow similar admissions by former Tory MP Craig Williams and Amy Hind, the wife of the Conservative deputy digital director.
  • Lee, Saunders, and Hind will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 23 October, while Williams will be sentenced following further trials in 2027 and 2028.
