Rosamund Pike publicly admonished an audience member for texting during an emotional scene of her play Inter Alia at Wyndham’s Theatre in London.
The actor, who plays a court judge in the production, returned to the stage during the curtain call to deliver a speech on theatre etiquette.
Ms Pike expressed how the incident was upsetting, stating that such distractions make it difficult for performers to connect with the audience.
The play explores themes of sexual assault and legal injustices, with Ms Pike having won an Olivier Award for her role.
This incident follows similar criticisms of poor theatre etiquette by other prominent actors, including Daniel Craig, Patti LuPone and Lesley Manville.
