Manchester has emerged as the UK’s leading city for average home asking price growth over the last decade, experiencing a substantial 63 per cent surge.
Conversely, London recorded the slowest growth, with average asking prices increasing by only 7 per cent during the same ten-year period.
Rightmove‘s analysis reveals a significant “north versus south” divide, with no southern English cities appearing in the top 10 for fastest price growth.
The average asking price for a home in Manchester is now £261,891, up from £160,422 a decade ago, while London remains the most expensive city at £687,080.
Factors contributing to Manchester’s success include affordability, strong economic growth, regeneration and changing working patterns, which have also led to a “spill over” effect into nearby areas.
