Three suspected drug dealers arrested in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered substances suspected to be cannabis, tramadol, codeine syrup and Tutolin syrup during a patrol operation in Akure, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Fisayo Adedamola, Adeola Oluwaseun and Adeogun Olumide, were arrested on July 24 by operatives of the command’s Anti-Cultism Squad during a confidence-building patrol within the Akure metropolis.

Jimoh said a thorough search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of various substances and pharmaceutical products suspected to be illicit or commonly abused drugs, including cannabis, tramadol capsules, codeine syrup and Tutolin syrup.

He added that the suspects had been taken into custody, while the recovered exhibits had been secured as evidence.

The police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing to determine the source of the drugs, identify possible accomplices and uncover any criminal network linked to the suspects’ activities.

He added that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Speaking on the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling the proliferation of illicit drugs across the state.

He said, “Drug abuse and trafficking remain significant drivers of violent crimes, including cult-related activities, armed robbery and other criminal offences. The command will continue to target individuals and syndicates involved in the illegal drug trade.

“We urge parents, guardians, community leaders and members of the public to remain vigilant and support the police by providing timely and credible information that will aid the identification and arrest of persons involved in drug trafficking and other criminal activities.”

Ohagwu added that the command remained resolute in ensuring a safe and secure environment through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations and sustained collaboration with the public, warning criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
