Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters have been deployed to tackle a flat fire in London in the early hours of Saturday morning
The blaze broke out on Lenham Road, with London Fire Brigade releasing a statement confirming the scale of the emergency.
The brigade said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a flat fire on Lenham Road in Thornton Heath.
Part of the ground and first floors and the whole of the roof of a mid-terraced house converted into flats are alight. Part of the ground floor of a neighbouring property is also alight.”

London Fire Brigade said in a statement: “Crews are tackling a flat fire in Thornton Heath, where the whole of the roof of the property is alight.
” The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke – please keep windows and doors closed while we work to bring the incident under control.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to London Fire Brigade.
Crews are still working at the scene this morning.

Station Commander Alec McNally, who is a the scene, said: “Crews are working hard to bring the fire under control as quickly and safely as possible.
“The blaze is producing a significant amount of smoke. We appreciate it is a warm night, but we are urging nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed while crews work to bring the incident under control.”
