The One Show is taking a four week hiatus as BBC bosses prepare to air more sport including Wimbledon and the World Cup. Explaining the schedule shake-up to viewers, ghosts Alex Jones and former JLS star JB Gill told viewers Friday’s episode was their last for a while.
At the start of the show, Alex said: “Now it is our last show before we take a four- week break. So tonight we’re gonna be celebrating some of the highlights of the year so far.”
Following their chat with Pointless star Alexander Armstrong, JB said: “As we mentioned earlier tonight on the show. It’s our last show before we take a break for four weeks to make way for more incredible sport, including Wimbledon.”
This is not new for the BBC show as it usually takes a break during the summer months of June and July. This comes amid a huge schedule shake-up which has affected shows including BBC Breakfast.

According to reports, £800million of cuts have been proposed as part of the first stage of the shake-up. A number of household names are facing an uncertain future as the corporation plans to cut a reported 550 hours of content throughout TV and radio.
BBC Breakfast will not be airing on Sunday mornings from September onwards and staff on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg and Newsnight will be merged together, as the broadcaster aims to save money.
Radio 4’s The World Tonight, which has been a fan favourite for 56 years, is reportedly one of the victims of the new multi-million shake-up.
The Director General, Matt Brittin told staff that the BBC will do its best to save jobs amid cuts.
This comes after Alex and JB welcomed a host of well-known names to the famous green sofa, to celebrate the last show of the summer.
Guests include Gavin and Stacey stars Joanna Page and Matthew Horne and former tennis star Annabel Croft.
And while they enjoyed good chats with all their guests, special attention was given to Annabel who became a grandmother again.
The legendary player said: “I do! She’s called Cosima and she’s about three weeks old and she’s absolutely gorgeous. She’s so delicate and beautiful, and I’m loving being Gran-Annabel!”
In response Alex said: “Gran-Annabel! It’s a good job you didn’t bring her because, with me and Joanna here, you would never of seen her again!”
Joanna then chimed in saying: “I’d have swept her off, given her cwtches!” JB then said: “Aw, I love that title Gran-Annabel as well.”
