- Writing in his column for the Telegraph, Carragher stated that Wirtz has so far resembled a useful £40m squad addition rather than a £115m game-changer, comparing him unfavourably to Kevin De Bruyne.
- Carragher warned that the upcoming campaign is a make-or-break season for Wirtz, noting that new manager Andoni Iraola‘s tactical preferences could see the German sidelined or forced out of position.
