A teenage girl was pushed into bushes and sexually attacked by a man at a park in Glasgow. Police are investigating the serious sexual assault in Springburn Park between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on Friday, June 26.
The 16-year-old girl was walking near the Moongate on the north east side of the park when she was approached by the man.
Officers describe him as having a tanned complexion, possibly European, and being of an average height and build. The man in his 30s was wearing a black baseball cap, a black lightweight jacket and black trousers.
Extensive enquiries are now underway in an effort to identify him. Police are particularly keen to establish what direction the man headed after the attack and if any nearby CCTV captured him leaving.
Detective Inspector Sharon McPeake said: “This was an extremely shocking incident on a young victim who continues to receive dedicated support from specialist officers.
“It is crucial we identify the man responsible and we are appealing for the public’s help with our enquiries. Think back, were you in Springburn Park on this day? Did you notice anyone of this description or anyone acting suspicious?

“This is a park that is often busy and welcomes locals, dog walkers, and sports clubs, so we’re looking for anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to come forward.
“In addition, I would appeal to anyone with private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage to check if it holds anything relevant and contact police.”
Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Mhairi Crawford added: “We understand this is a concerning incident for the local community and I’d like to reassure the public that there will be an increased visible police presence in the area.
“Officers will be carrying out dedicated pro-active patrols and will look to engage with park visitors, local groups and residents. Anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to these officers.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting reference 3845 of 26 June, 2026. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.”
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a sexual assault in Lockerbie.
The incident happened around 7.10pm on Saturday, June, 27, when a 30-year-old woman was walking on Dumfries Road and was approached by a man and sexually assaulted.
Cops confirmed the 27-year-old was released and is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.
Inspector Garry Mitchell who is leading on the investigation said “I would like to thank the community for their information which has resulted in an arrest being made. The response from the public was overwhelming and I am grateful for the assistance provided.
“We will work tirelessly to ensure anyone engaged in criminal activity is brought to justice.”
