Heartbroken loved ones revealed they were ‘struggling to process the loss’ as tributes have poured in. Emergency services were called to Aberthaw Road in Alway at around 1am on Thursday following reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a BMW, which was alleged to have left the scene of the crash.
Tragically, both were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash WalesOnline reports. An 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have since been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Gwent Police has been approached for an update.
Friends and family have paid tribute to the pair, and a GoFundMe which has been set up to support the families has already raised more than £12,000. Floral tributes left at the scene of the crash read “fly high boys” and “rest easy”.
Dozens of people also attended a balloon release in memory of Jaydon and Ta-Shay, held near the scene of the crash over the weekend.
One friend said: “It is such a tragedy and they were the best of mates. Everyone knew them and our hearts are broken into pieces.”
Jaydon’s mum Sophie Pederson said in a post on social media she was “struggling to process the loss of you, my first born, my whole world, my absolute everything”.
She said: “My boy, my darling darling boy. Why just why. How do I live without you here by my side. You were the best boy ever. Everyone adored you. Love you millions always and forever, your broken-hearted mum.”
Ta-Shay’s father’s Sunday league team, Odsal Rangers, held a minute’s silence before kick-off and wore black armbands in tribute.
The team wrote on its Facebook page: “Even though we are only at the beginning of this journey, we stand together as one and will support Carl in every way we can through these incredibly difficult times.”
Both teenagers are understood to be from the Alway and Ringland suburbs of Newport. They have not been officially named by police.
The fund for the two families has already raised more than £12,000 with a £16,000 target to pay for funeral costs.
Antonio Borg wrote on the fundraiser: “Following the heartbreaking loss of two young boys from our local community, Jaydon Bowyer and Ta-Shay Canoville, we are raising funds to support both families during this devastating time.
“All donations will be shared equally between the two families to help ease the financial burden of funeral costs and provide support in the difficult weeks ahead.”
