- Muirhead stated that a surprise opportunity and a “re-built fire” motivated her comeback, driven by a desire to achieve an Olympic medal in mixed doubles, which is currently missing from her extensive trophy cabinet.
- The decision to return was also influenced by the chance to train as a decentralised athlete from her home in England, and she hopes her comeback will inspire other women and athletes to return to sport after a break.
- Having previously battled severe depression leading up to Beijing 2022, Muirhead emphasised that taking a break from elite sport provided perspective and built mental resilience, ensuring her return is focused on enjoyment, which she believes will lead to success.
