This year’s local heats of Euroquiz brought together primary six pupils from across North Lanarkshire to take part in the popular competition.

The tricky quiz tests pupils’ knowledge of Europe’s history, languages and culture, with winners from each local authority progressing to the national final in Edinburgh in June.

A team from St Brendan’s Primary School in Motherwell took first place and will represent North Lanarkshire at the final. New Monkland Primary School, Airdrie, were runners-up.

Provost Kenneth Duffy said: “The Euroquiz helps build confidence, teamwork and an interest in other cultures. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and we wish St Brendan’s the very best in the final.”

Headteacher Maura Oates of St Brendan’s Primary School added: “We are very proud of our pupils. They worked hard and showed great teamwork on the day.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to represent North Lanarkshire, and we’re looking forward to the final.”

The event is organised nationally by SCILT (Scotland’s National Centre for Languages).
