It’s been pre-emptively compared to the Met Gala, and Taylor Swift’s approaching wedding to Travis Kelce is already proving to not just be the biggest celebrity event of the year, but the most mysterious one too.
Three years after beginning their romance, the chart-topping pop star and football player are getting hitched, with their wedding taking place on Friday (3 July). And as speculation reaches a fever pitch, fans have started combing Swift’s recent public appearances for the kind of Easter egg-ish clues she loves to weave into her work.
Rumours about the pair’s wedding have been circulating for months now – some appear to have been decoys, some genuinely unbelievable (but apparently true). Details of the day are few and far between, as not even the guests have been told a date.
However, all signs appear to point to Swift and Kelce, both 36, tying the knot at Madison Square Garden arena.

However, the couple are said to have moved the wedding after reports that this would be the site of their nuptials became public knowledge.
Instead, Swift and Kelce will reportedly be celebrating with a 1,000-person event on Friday, with The New York Times reporting that the streets around the venue will be closed on this day.
TMZ reports that there will be a smaller 100-person event held the day before, which many have speculated could be the actual wedding ceremony.
Swift has previously said that she doesn’t use Easter eggs to hide details about her personal life. Yet this wedding feels like the ultimate example of Swift’s personal life becoming public in a big way, and fans think they’ve spotted some potential clues about the big day in the run up…
The original wedding date
open image in galleryRumours of Swift’s original plans to tie the knot in Rhode Island in June have been circulating for months, with the originally selected date (13 June) seen as a surefire sign that it was the correct date. Swift is a big fan of numerology and leaving clues for her fans through numbers, and 13 is the most significant of all to the singer, being both her birthday and lucky number.

A surprisingly private venue
The reports that Madison Square Garden could be the wedding location were originally scoffed at by fans. Would someone as romance-obsessed as Swift choose such a soulless, corporate venue? But MSG provides Swift with the kind of privacy that the singer has come to favour since the end of the Eras tour, and that only a large-scale, high-security concert venue can provide. Unlike the original Rhode Island venue, MSG has private underground entrances and a closed roof, preventing photographers from using drones to take pictures from above. As someone who is obsessive about her image, this will give her control over it. Plus, MSG has sentimental value, as Swift played the New York venue on her first two concert tours.
A courtside performer confirmation
New York went wild for the Knicks in June, and Swift was among them, making a public appearance at the arena with Haim band members (and sisters) Este and Alana Haim. The trio all wore personalised, punny Knicks-themes t-shirts, with Swift’s emblazoned with the words “Stevie Knicks”. In retrospect, Swift appears not to have just been confirming her wedding venue but one of the musical acts performing. According to reports over the weekend, Fleetwood Mac singer Nicks will be playing at the show, having performed live with Swift in the past.
An all-American holiday
While the wedding itself won’t be taking place on 4 July weekend, it will be on the Friday night before. This All-American holiday not only seems reflective of Swift and Kelce’s romance – her the country singer, him the NFL player – but Swift’s personal love of the holiday. Swift has been known to celebrate Independence Day over the years with extravagant parties for her celebrity friends, and the wedding weekend feels like a continuation of this trend.
Clues to the dress
Swift is known to hides symbols and clues in her outfits, and fans have been combing her latest looks for potential signs. There was the corseted Erdem mini-dress Swift wore at the premiere of Toy Story 5. The playful, structured design felt fairly unconventional for her; could this mean the British fashion house is behind the dress? Swift also often opts for neutral bags, but wore a bright yellow Dior bag with a more understated striped dress from Staud while out for dinner in New York. The yellow bag could be a sign that the pop star will choose a fun, bright accessory on the big day, or that Dior could be her designer of choice.
All a decoy…?
Swift having control over her image like very few pop stars, there’s a chance that all this chatter is just that, and plays right into a Swiftian master plan. What if MSG was booked as a decoy, and Swift’s wedding is happening elsewhere? Pictures taken in late June appeared to show her hen party at her Rhode Island home, but what if that was the actual wedding? Swift already appears to have moved her wedding venue once due to her plans being made public, and there’s nothing to say that she hasn’t done it again? Only time – by which we mean Friday – will tell.
