Target has issued a voluntary recall for two variations of its Up & Up brand baby wipes after potentially harmful bacteria were discovered during routine testing.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, bacteria that can cause life-threatening infections.
While healthy individuals are at low risk, immunocompromised individuals, newborns, infants and young children face a higher risk of severe infections like sepsis or pneumonia.
The recall affects specific batches of Up & Up fragrance-free and cucumber-scented baby wipes, identifiable by manufacturing and expiration date codes.
Customers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled baby wipes and return them to Target for a full refund.
