Student charged in connection with bomb intercepted near Irish border
- Isobella Perrie Sullivan, a 25-year-old law student, has been charged after Irish police intercepted a suspected dissident republican bomb in a car she was driving near the Irish border.
- The intelligence-led operation by Gardaí on Wednesday afternoon led to the seizure of a “highly sophisticated” device containing suspected military-grade explosives, including Semtex and a detonator.
- Ms Sullivan appeared before Trim District Court, where she was granted bail with strict conditions, including a 15,000-euro surety, passport surrender, and a daily sign-in at Naas Garda Station.
- Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly described the seizure as “extremely significant,” attributing the threat to a “small minority of dissident republicans” who did not adhere to the Good Friday Agreement.
- Political figures from both sides of the border, including Ireland’s Minister for Justice and the PSNI Assistant Chief Constable, praised the cross-border cooperation that led to the successful interception, preventing potential loss of life.
