Strait of Hormuz: ‘No new deal’ – Iran rubbishes Trump’s claim

Iran on Sunday denied that it entered a new agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

This is in direct contradiction to United States President Donald Trump’s recent claims. Trump had, while saying he has canceled a planned strike, announced that the outlines of a deal had been reached.

But Iran Fars news agency refuted the claim.

“There is no agreement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

“As long as the United States continues its hostile actions, the strait will remain closed,” the agency quoted a senior Iranian military source as saying.

The military source added that ships would be permitted to pass only through a designated route and with authorization from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.

DAILY POST reports that the statement marked another sharp clash between Trump’s public account of negotiations and Iran’s version of events.

Recall that Trump early Sunday made the announcement that he had called off a planned American attack after Iran and several other Middle Eastern countries asked the US to refrain from striking, stressing that the basic parameters of a possible agreement had been settled.

“The US is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
