South Africa will bid to hit back and square the series as they face New Zealand in the second Test of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour in Cape Town.
The All Blacks stunned the Springboks in the series opener at Ellis Park last Saturday, snapping the world champions’ 12-match winning streak with a 33-16 success. That defeat has prompted a recall for Siya Kolisi into the hosts’ back row, with the skipper back to lead South Africa as fellow flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit brings up a century of caps.
The two sides have again traded barbs in the build-up, with the scrum an area of particular focus. All Blacks boss Dave Rennie has accused South Africa of scrummaging illegally and failing to drive straight, with the Springboks defending their technique as they look to again gain advantage at a key battleground. Can they level things up at 1-1 with two Tests to come? Defeat would end their chances of series success….
