Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition during an operation in Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out on June 27, 2026, in the Sabarumawa area as part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security across the North-West.
The Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to Danja, the troops acted on credible intelligence that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
He said troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 were immediately deployed to the area, where they laid a tactical ambush along the route suspected to be used by the terrorists.
“As the terrorists approached the ambush position, the troops engaged them with overwhelming firepower, resulting in a fierce gun battle,” Danja said.
He explained that the troops overpowered the terrorists, killing two of them, while others fled into the surrounding forest.
A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of weapons and other items abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle.
Danja said the operation was part of sustained offensives aimed at denying terrorists and other criminal groups freedom of operation across the North-West.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to protecting lives and property through sustained military operations against terrorist and criminal elements.
The military spokesman also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Operation Fansan Yamma is a joint military operation established to combat terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes across Nigeria’s North-West.
In recent months, troops have intensified intelligence-driven operations targeting Lakurawa terrorists and other armed groups operating in parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara and neighbouring states as part of efforts to restore security in the region.
