“She didn’t pay me well when I worked with her, Shakirudeen and I needed more money to rent an apartment that’s why we killed her.”

This was the shocking confession of Sodeinde Olajuwon Phillips, the prime suspect in the murder of retired Ogun State broadcaster, Olakitan Ibiyola Oyesiku.

Late Oyesiku, popularly known as Aunty Kitan, was murdered in cold blood alongside her 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at her residence in Agodo village, Kobape area of Abeokuta, last Saturday afternoon.

Aunty Kitan who worked with the Ogun State Television, OGTV, was once the producer of its flagship morning program, ‘New Dawn’ and anchor of ‘Prime Woman’, and among other popular shows.

DAILY POST reports that this year made it seven years after she retired from service.

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, her security guard was found killed and locked up inside the security house, while the 67-year-old retired broadcaster was found in a pool of blood, lying face up with blood-soaked tissue paper beside her, believed to be what she used to mop blood from her head before she gave up the ghost.

Her Lexus RX 330 was also carted away by the assailants.

According to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, one critical piece of evidence recovered was a handwritten note left behind by the perpetrators.

Ojajuni disclosed that the note was found on her chest and the same paper, but this time with a different handwriting was spread across the table.

“We met her lying, facing upward to the sky and we saw a paper, a note on her chest and we equally found the same paper differently spread on the table in the living room.

“We discovered that, that one met on her chest, the handwriting was totally different from others that were spread,” the police chief said.

Ojajuni revealed that on launching an intensive investigation, intelligence gathering and technical tracking operation, the missing vehicle was recovered and three suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.

The three suspects are Olajuwon, the former security guard of the deceased, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, a 36-year-old bricklayer.

DAILY POST gathered that Olajuwon, a native of Itoko, Abeokuta, joined a security firm (name withheld) in 2021 and was posted to the broadcaster’s residence in 2025.

It was discovered that Olajuwon had always contacted the deceased, demanding money even when he was no longer worked for her.

In an interview, the prime suspect confessed that he needed money to rent an apartment, hence the reason he killed his former boss.

He said, “My name is Sodeinde Olajuwon Phillips and I am 22 years old. Myself, Shakirudeen and Sobu participated in the robbery and killing.”

When asked why they committed the crime, he said, “We did it because she did not pay us well when we worked for her.

“Shakirudeen and I needed more money to rent an apartment. So, we wore masks, forced the security guard to ring the bell and after gaining entry, the security guard was taken back to his post.

“I killed him inside the security room, I found the hammer in the house while Shakirudeen rented a cutlass,” he added.

Recall that items recovered after searches at locations linked to the suspects include a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other relevant exhibits connected to the murder.

Olajuwon stated that they collected her car keys from her before she died and drove off with it.

“We left with her vehicle. Shakirudeen drove the car while we left together. We collected it from her before she died and drove to Onikolobo.

“I alighted under the bridge and went straight home, while Shakirudeen drove away with the vehicle.”

Recall that the commissioner of police had stated that the missing vehicle was recovered close to Olajuwon’s residence and he was arrested at a construction site in GRA Ibara, where he worked as a labourer.

The vehicle was found with the ignition key removed and the registration number plates detached and concealed underneath one of the seats.

The death of Olakitan Oyesiku mirrors a troubling pattern in Nigeria where domestic and ex-staff turn on employers over alleged low remuneration or pay disputes. In 2023, an ex-Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, staff, Kehinde Fatinoye, and his wife Bukola, were killed shortly after they returned from the 2022/2023 crossover church service.

Three assailants led by the couple’s driver, Lekan Adekanbi, burnt their corpses together with their house, located within the Ibara Government Reservation Area, Abeokuta.

Adekanbi and his accomplices, Ahmed Odetola and Waheed Adeniji, also tied their son, Oreoluwa, and adopted son, Felix, with ropes and threw them into a river along Adigbe-Obada road, where Oreoluwa died.

In February 2025, an Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta convicted and sentenced the trio to death by hanging.

They were charged with 24 counts bordering on armed robbery, conspiracy to murder, murder, arson, escape from lawful custody, among others.
