1. How it stands: In one of the most dramatic Scottish Premiership title races for many years, there’s barely anything to choose between Hearts and Celtic at the top. Going into their final day encounter at Celtic Park, Hearts lead their opponents by a single point in the table. Hearts are 80 points, with Celtic on 79.
  2. Midweek drama: The penultimate round of games in the Scottish Premiership could not have been more dramatic. Hearts did what they needed to do by beating Falkirk 3-0 to guarantee their spot at the top on the final. Celtic, however, had to fight back from 1-0 down and being pegged back at 2-2 to claim a last-gasp 3-2 win at Motherwell after a VAR assisted penalty that was full of controversy.
  3. What it meant: Celtic’s late winner at Motherwell was huge. It meant Martin O’Neill’s side now go into the final day knowing they simply have to win against Hearts. Had their game finished level at 2-2, they would have needed to beat Hearts and secure a large swing in goal difference to secure an unlikely title.
  4. Hearts win: So, what does it all mean for Saturday? Put simply a victory for Heart of Midlothian would secure their first top-flight league title since 1960. This result would see them finish four points clear of Celtic and officially break the long-standing Glasgow duopoly.
  5. Celtic win: If Celtic secure all three points at home, they will leapfrog Hearts to finish on 82 points. This outcome would crown them champions for another season, snatching the trophy from the league leaders at the final hurdle.
  6. A draw: Because Hearts hold a narrow one-point lead, a draw of any scoreline is enough for them to win the league. They would finish on 81 points, leaving Celtic one point behind in the final standings.
  7. Rangers position: Rangers cannot win the title as they currently sit on 69 points. This means the historic trophy is guaranteed to go to either the East End of Glasgow or the capital.
  8. How to Watch: The match will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event , Sky Sports Football , and Sky Sports Ultra HDR , with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
