School shutdown in Sokoto shows government has failed on security – Dan’iya

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has said the shutdown of public primary and secondary schools across most parts of the state shows that the government has failed to tackle insecurity.

Dan’iya made the remarks in a statement issued by his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi.

He expressed concern over the suspension of academic activities in 20 of the state’s 23 local government areas.

He noted that only Sokoto North, Sokoto South and Wamakko Local Government Areas were exempted.

According to him, the decision may have been taken to protect pupils, teachers and other education workers, but it also highlights the worsening security situation in the state.

“While closing schools may be necessary to protect lives, it clearly shows how far insecurity has spread and the government’s inability to provide a safe environment for teaching and learning,” he said.

Dan’iya said the closure had denied thousands of children their right to education and described it as a major setback to the state’s educational development.

He stressed that no society can achieve lasting progress if children are unable to attend school because of fear and violence.

The ADC candidate recalled that improving security was one of the major promises made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) before assuming office, but lamented that many communities in Sokoto were still battling attacks, kidnappings, killings and displacement.

“The first responsibility of any government is to protect lives and property. When children cannot safely go to school, serious questions must be asked about the effectiveness of the current security measures,” he stated.

Dan’iya called for better coordinated security strategies that would restore peace and public confidence across the state.

The governorship hopeful urged the people of Sokoto to carefully assess the performance of those in government and make informed choices during future elections.
