Ridley Scott claims he saved Alien franchise with controversial 2012 film
- Ridley Scott has claimed he revived the Alien franchise with 2012’s Prometheus after 1997’s Alien Resurrection performed poorly at the box office.
- The British director, who helmed the original 1979 Alien film, described his first entry as “the best one by far” before later re-establishing the series.
- Scott confirmed plans to complete his prequel trilogy, picking up after 2017’s Alien: Covenant with Michael Fassbender returning as the android David.
- Discussing the recent 2024 film Alien: Romulus, Scott called it “OK” but stated he felt the franchise “needs some help”, driving his decision to return.
- The filmmaker’s update comes as FX renewed Noah Hawley’s television spin-off series, Alien: Earth, for a second season.
