Reform UK reinstates councillor after racism allegations
Farage claims Britain dealing with two-tier policing as MPs erupt: ‘Condemn the violence’
Reform UK has reinstated councillor Glenn Gibbins, who was previously suspended over allegations of racist social media activity.
Mr Gibbins, elected to Sunderland City Council in May, was suspended after a March 2024 post about the city’s Nigerian community.
The party confirmed Gibbins’ readmission after an internal disciplinary process, saying he received a final written warning and apologised for the “poor taste” comments.
Labour MP Anna Turley criticised the decision, accusing Reform UK leader Nigel Farage of reaching a “new low” and ignoring blatant racism.
Mr Gibbins had previously said his posts were “intended as jokes” and “entirely inappropriate”.
