A woman punched and attempted to bite staff during a violent racist rammy at a hospital in Edinburgh.
Aileen Hunter carried out the attacks on two healthcare workers at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she was awaiting treatment. The 49-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday, June 31, over the disorder.
She pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault and also threatening and abusive behaviour, aggravated by prejudice relating to race, colour, nationality, or ethnic/national origin. Edinburgh Live reports that the incident took place on May 21, 2025, around 2.30pm near a nurse’s station where Hunter was a patient in the ward.
Hunter asked for another patient’s personal data, according to a fiscal depute. Clinical support worker Amber Ali declined, informing Hunter such a disclosure violated privacy laws.
In response, Hunter shouted, “F*** off, I wasn’t talking to you”. When Ms Ali asked Hunter to return to her room she retorted: “Go back to your f****** jungle.”
Hunter left the area briefly before returning, approaching Ms Ali, grabbing her with both hands and punching her in the face. She landed “several strikes” on Ms Ali before being separated by another member of staff, the court heard.
The assailant then pulled deputy charge nurse Krystal Maughan by the hair and attempted to knee her in the face and head. Ms Maughan resisted which resulted in Hunter punching her to the head several times. Hunter also lunged towards her and attempted to bite her on the body.

Other team members stepped in and reportedly described that Hunter was “dragged off” Ms Maughan, in more shocking details read out in court.A psychiatric evaluation deemed Hunter had mental capacity during the incident. Drug testing revealed she was not under the influence of any substances. She made no reply under cautioning and charge.
Sheriff Gill adjourned sentencing while awaiting a justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment.
