Fifteen individuals were arrested following protests outside Edgware United Synagogue in north-west London on Sunday, where demonstrators carried both Palestinian and Israeli flags.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrests were for a “range of offences, including public order matters,” with Commander Adam Slonecki highlighting the sensitivity of protesting in residential communities.
Commander Slonecki noted the heightened fear within Jewish communities due to sustained protests and recent attacks, distinguishing between central London protests and those in community hearts.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews strongly condemned the “wholly unjustified” demonstration, expressing deep disturbance over the incident.
This clash occurred shortly after four Palestine Action activists were jailed for an “act of terrorism” involving a raid on an Israel-based defence firm’s UK factory, causing £1.2 million in damage and a police officer’s fractured spine.
