Bumble, the dating app, plans to eliminate the swipe gesture and introduce AI-driven matchmaking as part of a relaunch later this year.
CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd stated the change aims to combat user fatigue and enhance engagement by offering more dynamic ways to express interest beyond profiles.
The company will also remove its policy requiring women to initiate conversations, though it aims to preserve the essence of women making the first move.
Bumble is developing an AI dating assistant named “Bee” designed to learn user preferences and act as a personal matchmaker.
These changes follow a significant 21 percent drop in Bumble’s paid user base in the first quarter of 2026, which the company describes as a “deliberate reset” to prioritize quality over quantity.
