The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, has said over 12,000 personnel and equipment, including Armoured Personnel Carriers and gun trucks, would be deployed for the governorship election on Saturday.

He added that tactical teams, the Police Mobile Force and the Rapid Response Squad, among others, would also be deployed.

The police boss, however, said there was no provision for state-owned security outfits, including the Amotekun Corps, Agro Rangers and local vigilante groups, to participate in election security duties.

Falade, who spoke with The PUNCH in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, assured that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free governorship election in the state on Saturday.

He said the Force Headquarters would deploy sufficient personnel and equipment to Ekiti for the election, adding that federal security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security were already coordinating efforts to guarantee a peaceful exercise.

He assured residents that federal security agencies would maintain peace before, during and after the election.

“There will be no problem. The election will be free and fair. We have provided a conducive environment. Recall that from the commencement of campaigns until now, there has not been any untoward incident.

“We are on the ground, identifying and addressing potential flashpoints. We are being proactive, gathering intelligence and taking all necessary measures to ensure that the election is peaceful and successful by God’s grace.

“All members of ICCES, including the Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Immigration Service, will participate in election security.

“We will not allow state security outfits such as the Amotekun Corps and Agro Rangers to take part in election duties,” Falade said.

He further assured residents that the state remained peaceful and secure ahead of the poll.

“In Ekiti State, we do not have any security concerns. Residents should feel free to participate in the election on June 20. My advice is for everyone to come out and vote because the environment is conducive.

“There is adequate security, and all arrangements have been put in place. I urge the people to come out and freely choose whoever they want to be their governor,” he said.
