Police officers who died in A66 crash hailed as ‘heroes’
- Two Cleveland Police officers, PC Tom Clough and PC Matthew Blades, were killed in a collision on the A66 near Middlesbrough.
- The crash occurred when a Volkswagen Passat travelling the wrong way down a dual carriageway struck their marked armed response vehicle.
- All five occupants of the Volkswagen Passat were also killed, bringing the total death toll from the incident to seven.
- PC Clough and PC Blades have been remembered as “heroes” who “put everything on the line to protect us”.
- The Police Service of Northern Ireland said: “The loss of two dedicated officers in the line of duty is felt profoundly across the entire policing family.”
