A gunman opened fire at a Montreal hotel, killing a police officer and a civilian before being fatally shot by responding officers.
Authorities are investigating the shooter’s potential ties to the misogynistic “incel” movement, as he reportedly released a “manifesto against women.”
Québec’s Domestic Security Minister stated the incident is being treated as a “domestic case” rather than a terrorism investigation.
A second police officer was seriously wounded, and a civilian sustained minor injuries during the firefight.
This marks the first time in 24 years that a Montreal police officer has been killed while on duty.
