Police have made an arrest after a man was found dead at a home in Cumbernauld.
Emergency crews raced to the property on Glenhove Road in the town at around 9.20am on Wednesday, July 15, and found the body.
John McMonigle, 45, had sustained serious injuries and following a post-mortem examination police said his death was being treated as murder.
Officers have now confirmed that a 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death.
Their enquiries remain ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of John McMonigle in Cumbernauld.
“Around 9.20am on Wednesday, July 15, the body of 45-year-old Mr McMonigle was found within a property in Glenhove Road. Enquiries are ongoing.”
Detective Chief Inspector Laura Young, senior investigating officer from the Major Investigation Team, added: “Our thoughts remain with Mr McMonigle’s family at what is an extremely difficult time for them.
“They are being supported by specially trained officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected.
“A police presence will remain in the area while our enquiries are ongoing. I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience as our investigation continues.”
