Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland are urging members of the public, particularly young people, to stay away from abandoned and derelict buildings, including the former Hartwood Hospital site, following recent reports of individuals entering unsafe structures.
These buildings present significant dangers due to structural instability, hidden hazards and the risk of serious injury.
Emergency services have repeatedly attended incidents where individuals have become trapped, injured or placed in danger after entering unsecured or condemned properties.
Sergeant Chris Grey, Wishaw and Shotts Community Policing team said: “Derelict sites like Hartwood Hospital may seem interesting or adventurous but they are extremely dangerous.
“Floors can collapse without warning, debris can fall, and hazardous materials are often present.
“Entering these buildings not only puts lives at risk but also places a significant strain on emergency services who must respond when things go wrong.
“We are asking parents and carers to speak with young people about the risks and to help us keep our communities safe.”
Officers will continue to carry out patrols in the area and work with partners to discourage access to unsafe sites.
Anyone with concerns or information is encouraged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or in an emergency call 999.
