Police are investigating after a group of six diners brazenly skipped out on a nearly £600 bill at a seafood restaurant, making their getaway in a Range Rover.
The brazen ‘dine-and-dash’ took place at The Oyster Shack in Bigbury on Saturday, 25 July, when three men and three women ordered four lobsters and a fruits de mer seafood platter before slipping away one by one without settling their bill.
The group racked up a tab of nearly £600 before making off in a black Range Rover. Since the incident, staff at The Oyster Shack have made repeated attempts to reach the diners on the contact number provided at the time of booking, reports Devon Live.

However, owner Kieron Vanstone confirmed in an update on 29 July that the group had still not been in touch. He said: “We’ve given them a deadline for response but they’re still dodging our calls. We have left the matter with the police.”
Despite the restaurant’s CCTV being out of action at the time, a fellow diner managed to note down the registration plate of the black Range Rover the group is believed to have fled in, and all available information has since been handed over to police.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson confirmed: “Police are aware of an incident where a number of customers left The Oyster Shack, Bigbury, without paying their bill on Saturday 25 July.
“Enquiries into this matter are ongoing. Anyone with any information that may assist investigating officers is asked to call police on 101 or visit our website quoting 50260196491”.
