The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed the purported claims made by a cleric over alleged impending bandit attacks in the state.

While urging residents of the state to exercise patience and remain calm, the command disclosed that investigations had begun into the alleged claims.

A clergyman, Michael Olowookere, had in a viral video circulating on social media warned that there would be terror attacks in Akure, the state capital, as well as Akoko and Owo, between Wednesday and Friday this week.

According to the cleric, the potential attacks would target churches, security outposts, as well as large religious gatherings.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, Abayomi Jimoh, the claims made by the clergyman were described as unverified and lacking intelligence backing from security agencies in the state.

However, Jimoh disclosed that the deployment of security operatives had been intensified across the state in order to prevent any form of security breach.

“The Ondo State Police Command has observed with concern a viral video currently circulating across social media platforms in which a cleric allegedly warned of impending attacks in some parts of Ondo State.

“Following the emergence of the video, the Ondo State Police Command immediately activated its intelligence and operational assets to critically assess the credibility of the claims and determine whether there exists any actual threat to public safety.

“Nevertheless, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, remain on high alert and fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” the statement read.
